Creation

Discover art created one stitch at a time, as Ultra Violet Designs takes nature and turns it into thread.

Using a technique called thread painting or sculptural embroidery, the creator behind the artwork, Andréa, uses a sewing machine to 'draw' her designs by hand on a water soluble fabric, with layers of thread carefully guided and built up to create colour, texture and intricate detail.

Rather than simply stitching an outline, the thread becomes the artwork itself, creating a beautifully tactile piece somewhere between textile art and painting.

The fabric is then washed away to leave delicate thread designs. Andréa then adds hand-stitched details to some artworks before pinning them carefully in place.

Every piece is individually created, giving it its own character and subtle variations. The result is a truly unique artwork made with patience, creativity and a whole lot of thread.

A beautiful addition to your home, or a thoughtful handmade gift for someone special.

About the Creator

A lover of wildflowers, the ocean and dogs, Andréa is inspired by many things, including her time living in Exmouth and the unique flora of Western Australia.
